International Women's Week!

Tue Mar 4, 2008, 1:41 PM

  • Listening to: Depeche Mode- Waiting for the night
  • Watching: Doctor Who Season 2
  • Playing: color the comic page..soon.
  • Eating: i should eat.. shouldn't i?
  • Drinking: i need to make coffee... COFFEE!!
Okay, first off I've lost my subscription to DA, so this is the no frills version of this announcement. So i'll try to make this quick.

Yesterday was the start of International Woman's week here at DA. This is where we celebrate women, and raise up important issues dealing with women's health, social status, and their history. Also the images that place the woman as a celebrated figure, and not so celebrated. ^sbaraci explains this so much better than me.

I wrote up a whole rant I had on sexism, but I feel that would undermine the positive vibe of this event. My words do indeed need to be said, but not today.

But go forth, spread the word, do features on female artists, feature art work of women. Write articles about women who have effected you in your daily life. Bring up issues!

Go forth my loves, make this a special event.

As for me, I have to go back to being the oppressed comic artist. Will anybody fight for our rights? ^_~ [man i wish i was really kidding. ]
Seriously, I'm behind in my work on my comic. My deadline for turning in my pages for "The God Machine" is the 12th. Somewhere in there I have to go visit Mega-con for a day. >_<

Female comic artist i be! yar!

Take care sweethearts, and hopefully i'll be able to do a feature on women sometime soon... *and maybe a sub to DA again... *looks sheepishly*...please? ;)

EDIT: Thanks to *Kuiosikle for the 3 month sub! =D Thanks man.

Now if it would only kick in full. :O

Where is DA's International Jay Week?

All Jay, All the Time.

Featuring: The Jay Bleeker Street Performers and Jayozo, the Candy Royale Clown.

It can coincide with Women's week, I don't mind.

Come ladies, ride the Jay Train. Jay Train Express Rollercoaster.

Big ups.
I'm all tuckered out from Black History Month (what did you all learn kiddies). Though to be fair, a month of awareness for a nation whos culture we kinda tried to destroy seems fair.

I had no idea I could respect women artists as equals capable of writing on the same emotions as men for a week as opposed to forever. Looks like my English Lit teacher was wrong.

I'm going to dispose witht he witty sarcasm and reveal some actual context. I think the week is too moderate, if anything. If it's a UN event, it should be full of taskforces, initatives, you know, the spending of money and more real activity. Not a bunch of papers and flag waving. It feels so Hallmark 'now go home and think about it', i'm sorry.

Maybe the UN will prove me wrong. This year.

sometimes even small things like flag waving and celebrating amount to a change many small things done by many people actually can amount to a tide, and change in attitude. Every year i buy all women near me flowers and wish them happy 8th of March and they smile, I tell them how much I appreciate them and love them and how much they changed my life, and for the smile on their face it is worth it.

"...last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition...most of you don’t give a shit. What’s more is that you’re more upset with the fact that I just said ’shit’ than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night."
Hurray womens week! I am happy to hear you are postponing the sexism blurb. I agree whole heartedly that it is important, and yet I feel whenever there is a womens event/gathering/recognition, it can't seem to occur without all the "I'm so objectified and oppressed" feelings and I think it often eclipses what should otherwise be a joyful experience. Good call!

May this be a week of happiness, productivness, improvment and empowerment! Weee!

The God Machine

Stricken with grief from the death of his girlfriend, Sith, Guy Salvatore struggles day-to-day to make sense of his world. He's plagued with hallucinations of monsters that torment him with outrageous requests and threaten his life wherever he goes. He's unsure if these manifestations are real or are being invented by his own sickened mind.

A man calling himself Satan holds the answers to Guy's woes. Satan's twisted tongue removes the tragedy of Sith's death, and restores hope with the promise of her being alive. But there's a catch… It seems that the two Gods that govern all of existence let her be stolen from her world by an unknown force. Now she is floating aimlessly in and out of dimensional planes known as the "Dream Worlds." Satan implores Guy to take action and call upon his latent power to break through his world's plane, search out Sith, and take vengeance upon the vile Gods that caused this atrocity.

What's a "Guy" to do? Especially when you think you're going out of your skull, and a suspiciously cliché and creepy man in a graveyard tells you that your dead girlfriend is alive.

Join Guy as he battles his perceptions of reality and starts to discover things that go beyond his world and into another.

An ongoing psychological drama-comedy about life, love, the politics of Gods, and everything you wanted to know about existence, but were afraid to ask!
