To clue you in, I was into Sonic in the days of the 16 bit era- back in 1994, I finally got a Sega Genesis during that time and had all the Sonic games, including Sonic CD. [I would subsequently get Sonic & Knuckles, Chaotix for the 32x, and so on..] Then when Archie started putting out the comics, I got into that. Me and my cousin got into those comics and made our own Sonic comics as well. That was when we were in middle school. Now, flash forward to almost 18 years later, and we are far from the world of what you call "sonamy" and "sonaly" - both me and my cousin are now published comic artists and writers. My cousin didn't get to work on the Sonic comics, but did do work on the final issues of Sabrina that Archie had put out.
