-----------full view please---------------

character- Mari Lin Joseph
from- my comic, "The God Machine."
media- photoshop.

Felt like i needed to do some art work. I've been working on comic stuff that's driving me nuts (my fault really for designing a crappy page.. but i fixed it. ^^ ) Anyways, a pic of Mari i give to you all.

Mari is Guy's other best friend since the 2nd grade. ^^ I like Mari, she's a nice gal. :D

EDIT: Please people.. don't leave me one word "compliments." Please tell me what you like about the image. Otherwise I think i've done something wrong, that i have created an image that doesn't connect with people at all.. and that it's just as shallow as "beautiful." I can't grow from these simplified compliments.. I know you all mean well.. but please..a little something more before i decide to scrap this image based on lthe fact it might actually be crap.

Fuck me.... who the hell did she just lose? There's pain here, a feeling of betrayal. She's a beautiful girl to be sure, but that sense drives that away, shoving the real issue into your face. You've accomplished something here and it's unsettling. None the less, great job.

hmmm well first i wanna say the black lines on the boot in front, where they for a reason, they feel slightly out f place to me, the give the boot a solid feel while the rest of the image is much softer. I feel it's a very lonely picture, she almost seems unhappy but to the point that she is almost comfortable with it. She doesn't have any sort of painful facial expresion, rather more calm yet her body language sugges she is in a corner and all by herself. I think you really get drawn into the face in this picture. Were am not to sure about the dark lines on her boot her black eyeliashes create quite a powerful pull for you to look at her face i just wish i could see this in full view, I only have a small monitor and with it being such a vertical image have to scroll up and down for a best look but saying that I love your more vertical images, you are most right to use them because they do work with your characters so well :D

I did read a few of the comments and i coudn't believe how many people just say the same stuff!! I mean there is one comment a few down
"lovely colors and expression!! her pose and face creates really sweet effect!" though it's different to my opinion soemthing like that is much better to the few above that just say "wonderful" beautiful"

and I found out th other day the chef worlds the same as the art world!! :D My brother is a head chef (he got me a job as a KP) and Graham a prep chef had made a new sauce and my brother said "what you think of it" he said "it's nice" as an artist I nearly cringed but what happened next was unbelievable :D my brother said everything i wanted to say (except he swore more being a chef) so i kinda joined in and looked up from mopping the floor (yes I mop in real life not just your forums :giggle:) and said "That's the same as the art world, you gota beas creative with your anguage as you are with your medium" and me and my brother connected i think for once :D he's given me great comments before in the past now I know why :D poor Graham then was told nice is about as good as saying somethings "good" :D poor guy always gets picked on :P

sorry for the chat Chan am a bit bored at the moment... whats kinda good i've been none stop the past few days :D so sitting about doing nothings a releaf :P i just had to comment on your work when i saw the large amounts of "that's wonderful, beautiful"

here endith the essay :P

You should set your stuph up for advanced critique if you want more detailed comments. I find I never really got them before I did that, and I still don't get a whole lot more. But some. Actually, now people just don't view or comment on my work at all. Maybe that's saying something else entirely. I really don't know.

Anyway, I love this. The figure is wonderfully done in all respects, but the little flourishes add a lot to the whole thing. You really have quite an eye. I adore her face and hair in this picture... also love the dress.

well, it's not like i want a highly advanced critique either, but i don't like "this is wonderful" and that to be it. Advance Critique just scares away people from giving you a comment at all. And if I put "no serious critique" up (whatever it's called) then i'd expect short answers like "that's beautiful," or something that has nothing to do with the picture.. or something. The point behind any critique is that you start saying why one likes an image... what formal elments make or break the image, what you're schooling has brought to you to bring to critiquing the image.. etc. I don't look for praise, i look for insight into what a person is thinking when they see my work. (this is how i know i'm sucessful or not in achieving my goal with teh image.) And i think every good artist is looking for exactly that. Praise is good for children who need encouragement when they're starting off drawing, not for a semi-proffesional. / end soap box rant. Sorry bout that.

What i'd really like is to be able to modify the words in the type of critique the artist. I think that would be helpful.. plus some kind of "how to guide" for critiquing people's work.. hmm that would be nice.

It would be nice, though I doubt it would make a lot of difference. People just seem to ignore these requests most of the time, unless you have a lot of watchers who are particularly cool. And no worries about the rant, I completely agree with you. Pretty much all my comments currently are "wow, that's awesome" or the equivalent, and I generally get maybe 2 of those on an individual deviation. I don't know if the advanced critique flag has scared people away or what, but the comments I used to get are long gone. I'm sure there could be a better way, as you suggest, but I don't know what that is. If you cook something up, suggest it to the folks in charge!

This is awesome. You did a really good job with this. The use of color for the background in such a simple way was a neat idea, though I do wonder what it would be like if the background was worked on more. But this is really good. Her face is awesome ^^

What I love about this is the 'feeling' that you get from it. The colors are awesome and I think that is what drives the emotion that you feel from looking at this piece. You feel her lonliness and sadness. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the grey on her. THAT pulls her mood down. If she had something bright on, I doubt the sadness would come through as strongly. I love this, and would love the painting on my wall. THAT is where something like this belongs. Its stunning :+favlove:

Looks really nice, its has the same melancholy feeling that alot of your other pieces of TGM....or well, what I've seen here which is mostly Good God and Guy? She just looks like there's something weighing very heavy on her mind. I almost wanna run over and give her a hug she looks so sad, lol!

Not that Im sayin in any way that it looks bad or anything like that. You have too much awesome stuff for me even to dare say that! It's looks really candid, like someone caught her at her most vulnerable and she's too lost in thought to notice or care.

Only one thing that bothers me about it and it could be only me, but the darker shade of amber that you have under Mari where she's sitting down at 1st glance looked like pee (Im probably the only one that saw this, and saw it as funny, so you can just ignore me, lol!)

Ahhh!!! It's NOT crap, so don't scrap it please!!
Full-view IS fantastic... I'm always jealous of your sketchycomputerpainterly skills... Or just wishing I had them... which is still basically the same as being jealous.
Do you just have at it? Pick out the natural brushes and some colors and go for an image?

... The lighting makes me happy... I just kinda wish that the black lines defining her frontmost boot weren't there since it's not carried on in any part of the picture... you know?
Or maybe you don't... and I'm just crazy like that.
